Jordan Murman, a student at the University of Nebraska Med Center, is halfway through an eight-week rotation at Chase County Community Hospital and clinics.

CCCH giving med student peek at future possibilities

The drive to help others has always been in Jordan Murman’s blood.
Murman was born in Michigan, but grew up in Omaha where his early ambitions were to become a firefighter. So much so, as a child, he dressed up as a fireman for Halloween eight years in a row, he said.
Once he got into high school and developed more of an interest in science, turning to medicine was a natural fit, in part, because both his parents work in the field.
Murman graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in biology and a minor in psychology.
Although his first application to medical school wasn’t accepted, the year off helped him solidify his decision to continue on. Murman spent the year working as a scribe for a medical doctor which added to his learning and growth in the field.
Chase County Community Hospital and clinics mark Murman’s third stop in his six stop rotation. So far he has completed his pediatric rotation at Children’s Hospital in Omaha and his surgical rotation at Omaha’s VA hospital.
His following three rotations, obstetrics, psychology and internal medicine, will help narrow down his final focus.
One thing Murman knows for sure is he likes the chance to see his patients after the initial diagnoses and offering continuity in care.
Murman said the Imperial community has been super friendly and very welcoming which has helped alleviate some of the homesickness that comes with being away from his family and girlfriend.
The availability of a duplex to live in was part of the appeal of coming to Imperial.
Murman has been in town four weeks and has four left to go.
He’s received hands-on experience in the CCCH emergency room and hospital itself, as well as seeing clinic patients.
“It’s been a wide view,” he said of his time working with Dr. Kayla Luhrs and the other staff at the hospital, adding everyone has been willing to teach him new things.
