August another good sales tax month

After breaking the monthly record in July, Imperial sales tax revenue in August did it again.
Another new record is on the books with the $54,581.45 received in the city’s August revenues.
That’s more than $500 above July’s record-breaking total of $54,047.91, which had topped the August 2021 former record of $51,660.08.
Imperial’s Community Development Director Tyler Pribbeno keeps an eye on the sales tax revenues.
“Looks like it being the highest month overall is a combination of being the 5th highest motor vehicle sales tax month and the 3rd highest non-motor vehicle sales tax month. So a great month across the board,” he said.
Sales tax from motor vehicle sales in Imperial for August brought in $10,344.74. That figure is included in the August month’s total.
Pribbeno said his discussions with personnel at the two local car dealers show they are seeing more new vehicles slowly trickling in, though the supply shortage is likely to continue for awhile.
A big factor in the record-setting month is the Chase County Fair held every August in Imperial, Pribbeno said.
When the city receives its monthly receipts, the sales tax on vehicles is separated and placed in the street department.
The rest is split 50/50 between the LB 840 economic development fund and the community development fund. The Imperial city council has final say for earmarking sales tax funds from both accounts.
The city’s 1% sales tax is added to the state’s 5.5% for a total of 6.5% on eligible purchases.
