Area communities hosting vaccine clinics this month

    Vaccines for Children clinics have been scheduled in several area communities during May.
    Coordinated by SW Nebraska Public Health Department, staff there say now is the perfect time to get children up to date on shots that they will need to start school in the fall.
    SWNPHD reminds parents who are sending children off to college to check with their school for what vaccines will be needed.
    Anyone two months of age and older are invited to get their vaccinations at the upcoming clinics, said SWNPHD director Myra Stoney.
    Clinic locations include (times listed are local to that community):
    Curtis — Monday, May 8, 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Medicine Valley High School.
    Trenton—Tuesday, May 16, 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Hitchcock County High School Library.
    Hayes Center—Wednesday, May 17 during kindergarten and 7th grade physicals, 9 -11 a.m. at Hayes Center High School Gym.
    Ogallala SWNPHD office— weekly, every Thursday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., walk-ins welcome. Also  4-6 p.m. by appointment only at 418 N Spruce.
    McCook SWNPHD office— daily Monday-Friday, 8-4 p.m. based upon the nurse availability, at 404 West 10th Street.
    May clinics tend to be busy, Stoney said. SWNPHD encourages those interested in vaccination to call to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome, but priority will be given to those with a scheduled appointment.
     Vaccines for Children is funded in whole with federal and Dept. of Health & Human Services funds. Children with no insurance, under-insured, Medicaid, Native American or Native Alaskan qualify for state-funded vaccines.
    Adults who are uninsured or under-insured may also qualify for state funded vaccines. Call the office for qualifications at 308-345-4223.
    Both state-funded and private vaccines are available at these clinics.  
    SWNPHD serves Chase, Dundy, Frontier, Furnas, Hayes, Hitchcock, Keith, Perkins and Red Willow counties.
