American Red Cross blood drive at CCS gym this month
The American Red Cross blood drive will be at Chase County Schools’ auxiliary gym on Thursday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The goal for this month is 80 units.
There is no substitute for blood or blood donors, and blood donors are urgently needed, according to the American Red Cross.
“We need volunteer donors to support all our drives. You do make a difference in the lives of others,” said Cathy Carman of the American Red Cross.
All types of blood are needed especially type “O” positive or any negative-type blood. These donors can also donate power reds.
All donors are required to wear a mask per the CDC, no matter their vaccination status.
Donors may still give blood after receiving a COVID-19 vaccination, but it is critical to know the name of the manufacturer in determining your blood donation eligibility.
“We provide safety processes: 6-foot distancing, hand sanitizer, wiping down surfaces and expanded deferral questions,” Carman said.
Red Cross staff asks there be no extra people with donors, per social distancing.
Only those feeling healthy and well should donate blood, and appointments are strongly encouraged, said Angie Paisley, CCS blood drive coordinator.
Appointments to give blood can be made online at redcross blood.org, or call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
To get a RapidPass on the day of a blood donation, donors should visit redcross blood.org/rapidpass/CCS highschoolblooddrive, complete the questionnaire that day, then print the RapidPass and bring it with them.
The completed RapidPass form can be shown on a mobile device, as well, when they come to donate, said Paisley.
