Accident damages vehicles in work zone

A two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon resulted in at least one totalled vehicle, but no major injuries.
Chase County Sheriff Kevin Mueller said two deputies from his office responded to the 3:20 p.m. accident on Champion Highway, about six miles west of Imperial, along with Imperial EMS and the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department.
Charles Joseph Elk Looks Back, 31, of Parmelee, South Dakota was the driver of a 2004 F-150 pickup, and part of the crew on the road project along Champion Spur 15A.
He had stopped in the south-bound lane to pick up workers who were moving road signs in the area when the pickup was struck from behind, Mueller said.
Monta Rae Graves, 68, of Champion was driving the 2004 GMC Canyon that hit the pickup, Mueller said.
Mueller said all individuals involved in the accident refused Imperial EMS’s medical transport to the hospital.
Graves’ vehicle was totalled. The extent of pickup damage was unknown, he said.
