Young Bronco wrestlers pick up wins

    Wauneta-Palisade wrestlers got two meets under their belts in two days last week.
    The Broncos went to the Hi-Line Invite in Eustis Friday.
    Draven Miner and Trey McCrumb each went 2-2.
    Miner finished fourth at 220 lbs. and McCrumb earned two pins at 182 lbs. Also taking wins were Coleman Chism, 113 lbs., and Sean Manley, 220 lbs.
    WP Coach Danny Schluckebier said it was a good day for the Broncos and WP got to see a lot of good wrestlers.
    “We kind of got an idea on what we need to work on individually and as a team,” he added.
    Although Konner McCrumb went 0-2 at Hi-Line, Schluckebier said the freshman had the crowd fired up during one of his 106 lb. matches.
    “Konner bridged exceptionally well one match and the crowd went silent before cheering,” Scluckebier said, adding he did not know the neck could bend like that without breaking.
     “So that was cool to watch,” Schluckebier said.
    New to the Broncos’ schedule was the Mullen Invite Saturday.
    Schluckebier said WP saw a lot of district competition early in the season at the meet, as opposed to seeing those teams at the end of the season.
    “I think it is important for us to find what we need to work on with district competition early in the season,” he added.
    K. McCrumb placed third at 106 lbs. after a 3-1 day. His only loss came to Class D #9 Logan Robirds of St. Pat’s.
    Miner also picked up a win.
    There are several things the Broncos need to work on as a team, Schluckebier said.
    “We can always get better at whatever we put our mind to, but I think we are sitting in a good spot compared to where we normally are at this time of the year. We have good morale and want to see our teammates do good and succeed, helping each other along the way,” he said.
