WP ready for RPAC tournament

    The post season is imminent for the Wauneta-Palisade volleyball team. The Broncos had three games last week to help prepare for the upcoming RPAC tournament.
    The Broncos lost both games last Tuesday at Oshkosh against Perkins County (9-14) and Garden County (14-8).
    WP was swept 19-25, 21-25 by the Plainsmen and 17-25, 18-25 by the Eagles.
    The Broncos traveled to Arthur County (10-13) Friday and picked up a four-set win, 25-22, 26-24, 16-25, 26-24.
    With the exception of the third set, each game was within a point or two through most of the set. WP tallied 12 aces in the match.
Up next
    The Broncos had a tune up for the RPAC tournament Tuesday at home against Medicine Valley, 12-7.
    RPAC begins Thursday night. WP, seeded fourth, will play fifth seed Hitchcock County. The winner plays top seeded Maywood/Hayes Center.
    Wallace will host the first two rounds of the other half of the bracket. Paxton, the third seed, will play Maxwell, the sixth seed, in the first game, followed by the Wildcats, the second seed,  against seventh seeded DCS. The winners will play at 8 p.m.
    Winners from the two sites will play at the higher seeded school Monday.
    Cambridge is the top seed in the East bracket, followed by Southwest, Alma, Medicine Valley, Arapahoe, Southern Valley and Bertrand.
    The finals will be Tuesday at McCook Community College.
    The tournament promises to be a good one.
    Cambridge and MHC are 1-2 in Class D1. Southwest is sixth in Class C2. Wallace is 10th in Class D2. Paxton (18-5), Alma (18-8) and MV (12-7) also bring winning records to the tourney.
    The D2-9 subdistrict will be Oct. 24-25 at the subdistrict’s highest seed. The subdistrict is made up of RPAC schools DCS, Hitchcock County, Paxton, Wallace and WP.
    As of Monday, Wallace is seventh in the D2 point standings and leads the subdistrict. Paxton is in 12th, followed by WP, Hitchcock County and DCS.
