Michael Duvel pulls down a Brady runner in the Broncos final game of the season last week.

WP football falls to Brady

The Wauneta-Palisade football team dug itself too deep of a hole last Friday against Brady.
WP Co-Head Coach Joseph Frecks said, with Brady having two of the fastest athletes in Class D6, the Bronco defense tackled well and played aggressively throughout the game.
“The defense held Brady to only 159 total rushing yards and most of those yards came in the 1st half.  Unfortunately we did give up some big plays in the 2nd quarter and got down 0-24, Frecks said.
After spotting the speeding Eagles 24 points, WP worked itself back into the game.
The Broncos’ defense forced a fumble with time running down in the first half and overcame a penalty to put points on the board heading into halftime on a nine-yard run by Jacksen Littrel.
Although WP was able to close the scoring gap in the second half, Frecks said some untimely mistakes and penalties kept the Broncos from taking full advantage of second half scoring opportunities.
Grayden Sutherland scooped up a fumble in the end zone to score WP’s second touchdown  and cut the Broncos’ deficit to 14-24
After Brady responded with its only second half touchdown, the Broncos added another touchdown to pull to within eight points, 22-30.
But WP couldn’t turn Eagles’ turnovers into points, with drives stalling at the Brady nine-yard and 21-yard lines.
After both teams went scoreless in the fourth quarter, 22-20 was the final score.
Frecks said the Broncos’ line blocked well and the backs ran hard. Littel finished the game with 110 yards on the ground and two rushing touchdowns.
Frecks went on to say he and Co-Head Coach Randy Geier  are extremely proud of the fight the team showed for the entire four quarters.
“After falling behind 24-0 we outscored them 22-6, we just didn’t have quite enough time to complete the comeback,” Frecks said.
Brady, seeded 14th, is one of four WP opponents to make the D6 playoffs. Others include Arthur County, seeded second, Southwest, 12th seed, and Wallace, 16th seed.
Class D6 playoff games will begin Friday.
