WP Broncos on the run as track season picks up

Track season is picking up for Wauneta-Palisade’s teams. The Broncos were at Sutherland last Thursday and traveled to Benkelman Tuesday.
This year’s Sutherland Booster Invite featured varsity and JV events.
McKenna Doetker placed second in the varsity 100-meter dash.
Cheyenne Parish was third in the varsity 200-meter dash, while Britney Barnard was sixth in the JV race.
Emma Acton and Sawyer Vrbas were third and fifth, respectively, in the 100-meter hurdles. E. Acton, Addalyn Einspahr and Vrbas placed third, sixth and eighth, respectively in the 300-meter hurdles.
The Broncos placed second in the 400-meter relay with E. Acton, Parrish, Izzy Stehno and Doetker running legs. The 1,600-meter relay, Jewel Holthus, Einspahr, Saviana Carrizales and Parrish, placed fifth.
In field events, GraCee Goings and Stehno placed fifth and eighth, respectively, in the varsity shot put. Abi Greaves, fourth, and Toria Bley, placed eighth, in JV.
Goings and LiLeigh Littrel were third and fourth, respectively, in varsity discus. Greaves and Bley placed second and seventh, respectively, in JV.
Vrbas and E. Acton tied for third in high jump with Lillian Dinnel came in eighth.
Stehno took eighth in long jump. Parrish was second, followed by Dinnel in third in triple jump. Barnard placed second in JV triple jump.
The Bronco boys placed Aden Acton first in high jump and Ashton Wheeler first in long jump.
Kaden Dorn won JV long jump, was third in the JV 100-meter dash and second in the JV 400-meter dash.
Trey McCrumb was eighth in the 200-meter dash.
Ashton Wheeler placed seventh in the 800-meter run while Casey Walker was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles.
In JV field events, Jack Ward was sixth in shot put and Dorn third in discus.
Konner McCrumb claimed seventh in varsity pole vault.
The Broncos’ 1,600-meter relay, Konner McCrumb, Wheeler, Walker and Kameran McCrumb, took seventh.
This year’s Dundy County Stratton Invite was windy, but still better than years past.
The boys’ team posted 10 PRs and the girls had eight.
The day’s best result went to A. Acton with a personal best high jump of 5’11” which earned him a first-place finish.
T. McCrumb was third in the triple jump and fifth in the 200-meter dash.
Wheeler placed third in the long jump.
Draven Miner was fifth in discus and sixth in the shot put with two PRs.
The boys’ 400-meter relay, Gabriel McCrumb, A. Acton, T. McCrumb and Wheeler, placed fifth while the 1,600-meter relay and 3,200-meter relays were fifth. Running the 4x4 were A. Acton, Kameran McCrumb, Konner McCrumb and T. McCrumb. Legs of the 4x8 were Kameran McCrumb, Walker, Wheeler and Luke Sims.
Peyton Cox lead the Bronco girls with a first-place finish in shot put. Cox was sixth in discus.
Goings placed third in discus and fifth in shot put.
On the track, Parrish placed third in the 200-meter dash.
Doetker placed fifth in the 100 and sixth in the 200.
E. Acton placed in both hurdle races, four in the 300-meter hurdles and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles. Vrbas, sixth, Einspahr, seventh, also finished near the top of the pack in the 300-meter hurdles.
Vrbas and E. Acton placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in high jump.
In other field events, Doetker was fourth in long jump, while Parrish was second and Lillian Dinnel fourth in triple jump.
    WP placed in each relay, as well. The Broncos were fourth in the 400-meter relay, E. Acton, Parrish, Einspahr, Doetker, fifth in the 1,600-meter relay, Dinnel, Einspahr, Holthus, Parrish, and fourth in the 3,200-meter relay, Ansley Bartels, Holthus, Saviana Carrizales and Dinnel.
Up next
    The Broncos will be at Cambridge’s Don Stine Invite Saturday, pending the weather.
    Also attending will be Arapahoe, Chase County, Cozad, DCS, Hershey, Maywood-Hayes Center, McCook JV and Southern Valley.
