WP Broncos looking for win heading into RPAC

The Wauneta-Palisade girls basketball team’s struggles in 2024 continued Friday with a 37-52 home loss to Perkins County (8-5).
The Broncos struggled to get their offense going in the first half, trailing 7-15 after the first quarter and 12-28 at halftime.
The third quarter was a different story. With three minutes left in the quarter, WP trailed 26-36. By the time the buzzer had sounded to end the quarter, the Broncos’ deficit was down to seven, 33-40.
But WP’s offensive woes returned in the fourth quarter. After scoring 21 points in the third, the Broncos only scored four points in the fourth.
Peyton Cox finished the night with 13 points for WP. Izzy Stehno had a team-high nine rebounds.
The Broncos’ second game of the week against Garden County was cancelled due to the weather.
Now WP will play 8-4 Paxton Thursday before heading into this year’s RPAC tournament.
Games begin Saturday in Wallace.
The Bronco girls are the third seed in the West Division and will take on Hitchcock County at 4 p.m. MT.
In the West, Maywood/Hayes Center leads the pack, followed by Paxton, Wauneta-Palisade, DCS, Maxwell, Hitchcock County and Wallace.
Second-round West games will be played Monday, Jan. 22 at Maxwell, then Thursday, Jan. 25 at Hitchcock County.
Alma is the top seed in the East bracket, followed by Southern Valley, Southwest, Cambridge, Arapahoe, Medicine Valley and Bertrand.
The championship and consolation games will be at The Graff Events Center at McCook Community College Jan. 27.
WP’s boys team, which lost 24-62 to Perkins County, is the seventh seed in the West.
The Broncos will play Dundy County Stratton at 2:30 p.m. MT Saturday.
Maywood/Hayes Center is seeded first in the West. Dundy County Stratton is second, with Paxton, Hitchcock County, Wallace, Maxwell and Wauneta-Palisade following, respectively.
Alma is the overall top seed in the East. Cambridge is the second seed, Southern Valley fourth, Bertrand fifth, Medicine Valley sixth and Southwest seventh.
Tournament games will be played Tuesday in Maxwell, while Hitchcock County will host contests Jan. 26.
The championship and consolation games for the boys will be played in conjunction with the girls games at McCook Community College’s Graff Events Center Jan. 27.
