WP boys fall to Sandhills Valley

The Wauneta-Palisade boys’ basketball team dropped a 33-53 loss to Class C2 Sandhills Valley Saturday night.
After a slow offensive start, the Broncos hung with the Mavericks (3-2) in the first half.
WP scored four points in the first three minutes of the game, then didn’t score for the rest of the quarter. Michael Duvel scored five of the Broncos nine second quarter points and WP only trailed by five points, 13-18, at halftime.
WP Head Coach Joseph Frecks said WP played very well defensively in the first quarter and he was proud of the way the Broncos defended and rebounds.
The second half got away from the Broncos.
“We struggled defensively early in the third quarter and had too many turnovers,” Freck said.
“We also got into some foul trouble in the 3rd quarter which hurt us,” he continued.
While Duvel hit all of WP’s field goals in the third quarter, Sandhills Valley spread the ball around with five players scoring.
“We struggled to stay consistent and discipline with our offense however, and the led to some transition opportunities for Sandhills Valley,” Frecks said.
WP had its best quarter of the game in the fourth, but so did Sandhills Valley and WP took the 33-53 loss.
Duvel led the Broncos with 11 points. Jacksen Littrel scored 10.
