Volleyball wraps up season, football playoffs continue across Nebraska

While one postseason has wrapped up, another has two weeks left in the season.
The state volleyball championships were held last week and final ratings were announced by the Omaha World-Herald Tuesday.
Omaha Skutt won Class B. Sidney finished eighth and Grand Island Northwest was right behind them in ninth. Both Sidney and GINW were on Chase County’s schedule this year.
Gothenburg finished the season as Class C1 runner up with a loss to Grand Island Central Catholic in the state championship match. Minden was third after sweeping North Bend Central in the consolation match.
Lincoln Lutheran completed an undefeated season by winning Class C2, beating Archbishop Bergan in the state championship game. In Class C2, RPAC’s Southwest is seventh.
In Class D1, Cedar Catholic beat Norfolk Catholic for a state championship. Also from the RPAC, Cambridge, which lost to Cedar Catholic in the first round, ended the season in third while Maywood/Hayes Center lost in the consolation match and finished in fifth. Axtell is 10th.
Overton is the Class D2 runner up after a loss to Howells-Dodge in the state championship match. Wallace is rated ninth.
The football playoffs continue with the state semifinals Friday.
Ord remains alive in the Class C2 semifinals. The Chanticleers play Norfolk Catholic Friday, while ninth seeded Battle Creek, which upset number one seed Hastings St. Cecilia, will play #12 Cedar Catholic, which beat Mitchell.
North Platte St. Pat’s remains unbeaten in Class D1 and will play Neligh-Oakdale. Third seeded Stanton will host seventh seeded Clarkson/Leigh in the other semifinal.
In Class D2, number one Howells-Dodge routed Dundy County Stratton last week and will play #12 Central Valley Friday. In the other half of the bracket, sixth seeded Bloomfield will play second seeded Hitchcock County in Trenton Friday.
The two top seeds remain alive in Class D6, Sumner-Eddyville-Miller and Arthur County. SEM will play Parkview Christian, while the Wolves will take on Pawnee City.
