Three finish fourth for WP at SW

    Fourth places finishes by Hunter Miner, Conner Bryner and Cole Hamilton highlighted Wauneta-Palisade’s Saturday trip to the Southwest Invite.
    Miner opened the day with a pin, but lost his second match.  After bouncing back with three-straight pins, including one over Maxwell’s Riley Miller (22-15), Miner had reached his match limit and had to forfeit the third place match.
    Bryner went 2-2 at the invite, winning his first and third matches, but losing his second and fourth matches.
    Bryner took down Cambridge’s Wyatt Ervin (22-19) to open the day before losing to Andrew Hubert (37-4) in the semifinals.
    Hamilton lost his first match of the day to Ashton Bearley (22-12) of Atwood-Rawlins County, Kansas. Hamilton picked up two first period pins to get himself to the third place match. Hamilton lost to Jackson Maske (31-18) of Lincoln Lutheran in the match.
    Coleman Chism was 0-2 at 106 lbs. and Trey McCrumb was 0-2 at 160 lbs.
Up next
    WP will head west to Bridgeport once more for the district meet Friday and Saturday.
    Joining the Broncos for the district meet will be Banner County, Bayard, Bridgeport, Crawford, Dundy County Stratton, Garden County, Hay Springs, Hemingford, Hitchcock County, Hyannis, Kimball, Leyton, Medicine Valley, Minatare, Morrill, Mullen, North Platte St. Pat’s, Paxton, Perkins County, Sioux County and Sutherland. Sutherland comes into districts as the state Class D duals champion.
    The state wrestling championships will begin Feb. 17. Classes A and D will wrestle the evening session.
    Class D will continue with the afternoon session Feb. 18, with all classes of semifinals and third round consolation matches being that evening.
    All class sessions will begin at 7:30 a.m. MT Feb. 19 and run throughout the day until the championship matches begin at 2 p.m. MT.
