Senior Trey McCrumb leading young WP wrestling squad

With only one senior on the Wauneta-Palisade wrestling team, the Broncos are working hard to establish good team leadership across its roster.
Senior letterwinner Trey McCrumb headlines a roster that includes seven freshmen and sophomores.
Konner McCrumb, Coleman Chism and Draven Miner each lettered last season for WP.
Head Coach Shad Wiese said practice has been going well and everyone is staying mostly healthy.
A few bumps and bruises are to be expected when wrestling, he added.
The Broncos’ season begins Friday at the Hi-Line Invite. WP will travel to the Mullen Invite Saturday.
As the season goes on, Wiese said WP will keep working on its consistency and confidence
Wiese will be assisted by Tate Coss and Hunter Miner for the boys team, while Michaela Dukes will help coach Andrea Almanza on the girls side.
Boys’ weight classes will have a new look this year. Seven will stay the same, 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138 and 285, while seven will change, 144, 150, 157, 165, 175, 190 and 215.
Wiese said he likes the new classes because they help break up the usually fuller middle weights more and Nebraska now matches surrounding states.
As girls wrestling continues to gain in popularity, teams increased from 145 in 2022-2023 to 175 this year, the NSAA has added subdistricts to its postseason plan.
