Senior Legion drops matchup with McCook

Baseball season can often be fast and furious, but the Pinnacle Bank Senior Legion team found itself with a free week on its schedule between its June 6 loss to McCook and its next game, Thursday at Sutherland.
McCook had two walks and a single last week to grab a one-run lead in the top of the first.
After Imperial went scoreless in the bottom of the first, Horns pitchers struggled in the second inning. Mason Wallin started the game for Imperial and gave up six runs on two hits and four walks. Colin O’Neil came on in relief in the second inning with the bases loaded. O’Neil gave up four singles and one walk, but left the bases loaded by striking out three of the last four batters he faced.
Buried in an 0-8 hole, the Horns also left the bases loaded in the second and third innings.
Defensively, Imperial faced four batters in the final three innings, but didn’t allow a runner past second base.
Only one Horns’ batter reached base over the final two innings of the loss.
Thomas Reeves went 2-3 in the game. Gavin Wisnieski, Wallin and Carter Leibbrandt each had one hit.
After Thursday’s game against Sutherland, the Horns will return home for a junior-senior doubleheader with Broken Bow Saturday, as well as a junior-senior doubleheader with Gothenburg Sunday.
June will stay busy with four games on the road against McCook, Ogallala, Broken Bow and Holdrege.
After their June 25 game at Holdrege, the Horns will have to see when their next game will be. The senior league championship will be July 5 at the site of the East Team that qualifies.
Senior districts will be at Valentine beginning July 21.
