Rusher, Schilke qualify for state in first year of girls wrestling at CCS

    The CCS Longhorn Wrestlers traveled to Broken Bow for the Class C District 4 Meet on Friday and Saturday, Febr. 9-10.
    The addition of girls wrestling this year forced a change in the tournament schedule. The girls would wrestle Friday and the boys would all wrestle on Saturday.
    CCS had three girls qualify from sub-districts last week and two of the girls will be advancing to the state tournament.
    At 145 pounds, sophomore Hayley Rusher, (21-2), finished as runner-up. Rusher won her first two matches before falling by pin to undefeated Maggie Fiene of Conestoga.
    Rusher will face senior Carly Wemhof, (28-7) of Schuyler in the Thursday afternoon session, which begins at 3:00 pm at the state tournament.        Senior Brooke Schilke, (27-9), finished as runner-up in the 155 pound division, earning her a trip to the big show. Schilke lost in the finals by pin to Anyia Roberts, (41-2), of Grand Island.
    Schilke will wrestle Ashaya Steele, (21-6), of Crete in the Thursday afternoon session.
    Junior, Navaeh Martin, (7-14), finished her season at the district tournament.
Meet results
105—Navaeh Martin lost by tech-fall to Abby Negley, 38-0 (Got), 7-23, was pinned by Dymond Green, 36-14 (ON), 2:35.
145—Haley Rusher pinned Zoleigh Reffalt, 32-19 (BAY), 1:08, won by decision over Cladis Lucas-Escobar, 30-11 (GI), 5-1, was pinned by Maggie Fiene 41-0 (CON), 2:50 for second place.
155—Brooke Schilke pinned Caylee O’Brien, 15-21 (NP), 2:17, won by decision over Mariah Duran, 36-6 (SV), 8-6, was pinned by Anyia Roberts, 41-2 (GI), 1:23 for second place.
