Imperial 1 and Imperial 2 had a busy week with both teams playing two games.
Imperial 1 vs. Grant
On June 8, Imperial 1 had a game against Grant at home.
Grant opened the game with two base hits, but was unable to score any runs.
Imperial 1 started strong in the first inning, scoring James Bomba, Destry Oxford, Evan O’Neil and Connor Stromberger.
Imperial 1 continued to hold Grant scoreless over the first four innings with six strikeouts over the span.
Imperial 1 carried their momentum from the first inning to the third inning. Three singles and two walks brought home Lukas Fries, O’Neil, Zak Anderson and Parker Terryberry.
Each team went scoreless in the fourth inning before Grant scored three runs in the fifth inning.
A two-out walk by Taylor Maddux, followed by singles from Fries and Bomba finished off the 11-3 win.
Imperial 1’s pitcher’s Braxton Chubb and Fries walked only four batters and allowed three hits in their five innings of work.
Imperial 2 vs. Paxton
Imperial 2 was first up to bat Friday at Paxton. Aiden Vlasin and Cole Duffy were stranded on base after each walked.
Paxton’s lead off batter reached base and came around to score.
Trailing 0-1 in the top of the second inning, Jaxsen Villarreal led Imperial 2 off with a walk. Jesus Acuna also earned a walk. Villarreal came around to score, as did Max Bernard. Dylan Misceles was able to get a walk with a full count but was left stranded at second base.
Imperial 2 held Paxton scoreless in the second inning and added to its 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning. Cole Duffy and Rodrigo Robles scored with one out in the inning to increase Imperial 2’s lead to 4-1.
Paxton scored one run before Imperial 2 got outs back to back. Paxton rallied with two outs to add three more runs.
Imperial 2’s was able to get runners on base in the fourth inning. first batter, Bernard, was able to make it on base, but got out at third. Miscles scored, but four base runners couldn’t make it home leaving the game tied at 5-5.
Paxton tacked on one run in the fifth and sixth innings to give Imperial 2 a 5-7 loss.
Imperial 1 vs. Sutherland
Imperial 1 continued its homestand Friday against Sutherland.
Sutherland had an intense start to the game, scoring five  first inning runs.
Brextin Moreno tripled to lead off the game for Imperial 1 and scored, as did O’Neil who reached base with a single.
Sutherland scored one run in the second inning but left the bases loaded.
Imperial 1 took the lead during the bottom of the second inning by scoring six runs. Lleyton McDaniel, Noah Rau, Tate Teply and Destry Oxford led off the inning with walks before Moreno cleared the bases with a triple. Moreno and O’Neil also scored to give Imperial 1 an 8-6 lead.
Pitcher Connor Stromberger sat down all three Sutherland batters in the third inning with strikeouts.
Oxford and Moreno singled in the third inning and came around to score to give Imperial 1 a four-run lead, 10-6.
In the fourth inning, once more, Imperial 1 sat Sutherland down in order. Chubb singled for Imperial 1’s only hit of the fourth inning, but walks by McDaniel, Teply and Moreno helped add three more runs.
Sutherland scored two runs early in the fifth inning.
O’Neil scored Imperial 1’s last run on an McDaniel double.
The final score of the game was 14-8, an Imperial 1 win.
Terryberry, Stromberger and Bomba pitched for Imperial 1. The group only gave up two hits and struck out eight,
Imperial 2 vs. Wallace
Imperial 2 traveled to Wallace June 10.
Aaron Cervantes, Bernard and Duffy scored for Imperial 2 in the top of the first inning.
Wallace answered with five runs.
Crevantes reached base in the second inning, but was stranded. Wallace increased its lead with two more runs in the bottom of the second inning.
In the third inning, Imperial 2 had four runners score, Acuna, Mireles, Villarreal and Vlasin, tying the game a 7-7.
Wallace scored four runs of its own in the third inning.
Neither team scored in the fourth inning and Imperial 2 didn’t add any runs in the fifth inning.
With eight Wallace runs in the fifth inning, Imperial 2 lost 7-19.
Up next
Imperial 1 will travel to Ogallala 1 Wednesday, while Imperial 2 will host Ogallala 2.
Friday, Imperial 1 hosts Hershey. Imperial 2 will travel to Grant and Imperial 3 will head to Sutherland.
