Hunter Miner won a 9-1 decision over North Platte JV’s Emiliano Morin at the Medicine Valley Invite Friday.

Miner, Hamilton fourth for WP at Medicine Valley

    Three of Wauneta-Palisade’s six wrestlers at Friday’s Medicine Valley Invitational added to their season’s win total.
    Hunter Miner and Cole Hamilton led the way with fourth place finishes.
    Miner split his first two matches at 145 lbs, but bounced back with three wins in a row. Miner medically forfeited his third place match.
    Hamilton lost his first match of the day, but then picked up back-to-back wins to advance to the third place match. Hamilton lost to Southwest’s Clayton Hardy (32-9) by pin in the second period.
    After winning his first match at 170 lbs., Conner Bryner lost in the quarterfinals. Bryner pinned his next two opponents, but lost in the consolation semifinals 5-1 to Garden County’s Dallas Miller (23-8). Bryner is now 32-11 on the year.
    Going 0-2 on the day was Coleman Chism at 106 lbs., Justin Warembourg at 132 lbs. and Trey McCrumb at 160 lbs.
    Broncos Coach Danny Schluckebier said it was a tough day with a lot of great wrestlers.
    “We wrestled strong and found things we need to work on as a team,” Schluckebier said.

    Schluckebier added that the Broncos are motivated and ready to work hard at their last regular season meet.
    WP will be at the Southwest Invitational Saturday in Bartley.
    The district meet will begin Feb. 11. Joining WP at Bridgeport will be Banner County, Bayard, Bridgeport, Crawford, Dundy County Stratton, Garden County, Hay Springs, Hemingford, Hitchcock County, Hyannis, Kimball, Leyton, Medicine Valley, Minatare, Morrill, Mullen, North Platte St. Patrick’s, Paxton, Perkins County, Sioux County and Sutherland.
    The state championships will begin Thursday, Feb. 17. Classes A and D kick off that evening following the completion of Classes B and C.
    Classes A and D will be on the mat the following afternoon, along with the first session of girls.
    All classes and girls will wrestle in the evening session.
    The tournament will wrap up Feb. 19.
