Longhorns take Sutherland Invite title by 15 points over NP St. Pat’s

    For the second week in a row, the Chase County boys’ track team brought home a team title.
    After a win at Cambridge the previous week, the Longhorns won the Sutherland Invite last Thursday over North Platte St. Pat’s, 107-92. Both teams were well ahead of third place finisher Perkins County, which finished with 74 points.
    Two relay wins helped push CCS ahead of its competitors.
    The 400-meter relay team of Jonathan Sosa, Ryan Bernhardt, James McArthur and Dawson Mollendor won by 0.26 over Perkins County.
    The 1,600-meter relay team, Luis Co, Stephen Murray, Bernhardt and Easton Fries, beat the Plainsmen by two seconds.
    Also earning wins were Dawson Mollendor in the 100-meter dash and Easton Fries in the 300-meter hurdles.
    The pair added other points. Mollendor was third in the 200-meter dash and Fries was second in the 100-meter hurdles.
    Jaret Peterson was second in shot put.
    Also helping the Longhorns cause were multiple placings in individual events.
    CCS had Zach Herbert, Stephen Murray and Co place in the 400-meter dash top eight. Fries, Jensen Olsen and Kade Anderson were in the top five of the 100-meter hurdles. Peterson, Cooper Dillan and Conner Tyerman were in the top eight of the discus.
    Overall, Chase County athletes set 10 personal records on the day.
Up next
    The Longhorns hosted their annual invite Tuesday.
    After a day off from school Friday for district music, Chase County will head to Hershey Saturday for the Mike Troxel Invite.
    Field events will start at 9 a.m. MT and running events at 10:45 a.m.
    The weeks ahead will stay busy. The JVs will head to McCook Monday. The SPVA meet will be held at Perkins County April 29. Another JV meet will be May 2 at North Platte, then Best of the Midwest will take CCS back to Sutherland May 3.
    Districts will be May 12 at Mitchell.
