Longhorns open football season with decisive win

The Chase County Longhorn team opened the season on the road to Alliance and brought home a win, defeating  the Bulldogs 38-8.
Alliance received the opening kick and returned it just short of their own 35 yard line. After a short gain rushing on first down, Landon Crowe dropped back to pass but was picked off at the 46 yard line by Tyler O’Neil who took it all the way back for the first TD of the year. The ensuing extra point by McArthur was good.
After stopping Alliance on the next possession
Chase County put a drive together, capping it off with a one yard TD run from James McArthur.
In the second quarter Alliance found some success on offense with a scoring drive that was capped off with a 10 yard pass from Crowe to Tristen Timbers for the touchdown.
Chase County looked a little confused when the bulldogs lined up in the swinging bridge formation going for two which resulted in a successful conversion bringing the score to 14-8.
Just before the half ended Chase County drove deep into Bulldog territory and converted a 37 yard field goal for a 17-8 halftime lead.
The second half was all Longhorns starting with a 27 yard passing touchdown from Cooper Dillan to Kole Clevenger. The kick by McArthur put the score at 24-8. After trading possessions for the rest of the third period, the Longhorns closed out strong in the fourth quarter.
Dillan threw a 17 yard touchdown to Luis Co but the extra point failed. Soon after, Thomas Reeves pressured Crowe into fumbling into his own end zone where Reeves and Jaret Peterson dropped him for the safety.
The Longhorns went to the ground to run the clock when Thomas Reeves who had been busting tackles all night, busted a 51 yard run right up the gut for the final score of the game.
Chase County had the ball for 61 plays compared to 58 for Alliance. The Longhorns amassed  299 total yards to the Bulldogs 188.
The Longhorns rushed for 191 yards while passing for 108. The defense held Alliance to 24 rushing yards and gave up 164 passing yards.
Chase County lost one fumble in the game and Alliance threw 4 interceptions.
Next up for the Horns will be the Sidney Red Raiders coming to town Friday night at 7. Sidney is coming off a win over Holdrege Friday night 32-23.
In last years match-up with Sidney the Longhorns lost 13-33.
