Longhorns get look at district course at Kimball

With a slight change to its schedule, the Chase County golf team was able to get itself on Kimball’s Four Winds Golf Course, home of next week’s C5 district golf meet.
The Longhorns had originally planned on going to the North Platte St. Pat’s Invite Thursday, but Head Coach Marissa McDaniel liked that CCS was able to switch to Kimball and get a look at the course.
Overall, she thought the  Kimball Invite went well, despite pulling some JVs up to play varsity for this meet.
“I appreciate their willingness to jump in at a fairly complex course. It was a beautiful day and the course was in great shape,” McDaniel said.
Gavin Wisnieski shot an 88. With five players shooting 87 and tying for 12th, as well as three players shooting 79, Wisnieski officially finished in 17th place.
McDaniel said Wisnieski was right around his average, as was Kaden Vogt.
Cole Pankonin had the Longhorns’ second best score, 98, which McDaniel said is good to see.
Beau Weiss and Parker Terryberry moved up to fill varsity spots.
“Now that they’ve seen the course and we can discuss the obstacles like water, trees and sandtraps, I think they’ll be ready for districts,” she added.
Up next
The Longhorns last regular season meet was Tuesday at the Bayard Invite. While the varsity was there, the JVs went to Sutherland.
CCS will make the return trip to Kimball Monday for districts.
Also there will be Alma, Amherst, Bayard, Broken Bow, Gordon-Rushville, Hershey, Hi-Line, Kearney Catholic, Kimball, Mitchell, Morrill, Sandhills Valley, Sutherland and Valentine.
Class C State Golf will be May 23-24 at the Elks Country Club at Columbus.
