Tyler O’Neil (72) was the first CCS defender to get to the Hershey quarterback in the end zone, but teammates Zach Tarin (68), Tristan Jablonski (22) and James McArthur swarmed in to get the safety.

Longhorns flatten Hershey

The cards were stacked in the Chase County football team’s favor when Hershey came to Imperial Friday night.
With the Panthers’ starting quarterback out with an injury, CCS Head Coach Nathan Gaswick said the team knew that Hershey would struggle offensively.
That proved true on Hershey’s first possession. The Longhorns’ defense forced the Panthers backwards before getting a safety.
Chase County’s offense was firing on all cylinders, as well, scoring on its first play. In the first quarter CCS ran eight offensive plays and scored three touchdowns.
The defense put points on the board with two more safeties in the second quarter, while the offense tacked on three more touchdowns.
The Longhorns took a 40-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
CCS added two more touchdowns in the second half, en route to the 54-6 win.
Gaswick said he was proud of the way the Longhorns’ offense and defense played and the physicality they brought.
“I believe that it shows how balanced this team is with seven recorded touchdowns being scored by six different players. Our guys worked to minimize mistakes and took advantage of the ones that Hershey made,” Gaswick said.

CCS heads to unbeaten Mitchell Friday. The Tigers currently sit on top of the Class C2 point standings.
Gaswick said Mitchell will be one of the toughest opponents CCS will face all season.
“They have a large and athletic offensive line and backfield that have helped to wear down opponents all season. We will have to bring intensity and play sound across the board,” he said.
Next week the Longhorns will travel to 5-1 Wood River, the 11th team in the point standings, before the regular season wraps up against Valentine Oct. 21. This week Valentine is 19th in the point standings, three spots behind CCS and a playoff berth.
