Longhorn softball looking for first win

Games are picking up and the Chase County softball team  continues to battle as it looks for its first win of the season. The Longhorns played three away doubleheaders during the week.
CCS traveled to Yuma, Colorado to play Yuma County (7-9) Sept. 5.
The Longhorns lost the first game 1-12 in four innings. At the plate, CCS put the ball in play but hit a lot of balls up the middle. Brooke Schilke singled and stole two bases to set herself up to score in the third inning. Chase County trailed 1-4 at that point before giving up one run in the third and seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Iris Robles singled twice for CCS.
Marley Randall pitched for the Longhorns.
In game two, Robles singled and scored on a double by Jasmine Johnson in the first inning.
Schilke was hit by a pitch in the third inning and came around to score on a triple by Johnson.
CCS gave up 10 hits in the game, losing 2-15.
Katelyn Stamm and Denisse Guillen pitched for Chase County.
The Longhorns were on the board first against Hershey Thursday.
Schilke singled and moved to third on a sac bunt by Stamm. Schilke would score on a single by Johnson.
Stamm and Robles both scored in the third inning.
Hershey’s damage was done in the first inning of the game when the Panthers scored 13 runs. Hershey was scoreless in the second inning and added two runs in the third to hand CCS a 3-15 loss.
Guillen and Stamm pitched for Chase County.
The second game of the doubleheader left Smith the most frustrated she’s been this season.
CCS had been putting the ball in play most games of the season, but in the second game again Hershey the Longhorns struck out seven times against a pitcher they made contact with in the first game.
Randall only gave up seven walks in the 0-18 loss. Hershey had eight hits.
The Longhorns’ JV team got its first taste of action Saturday at Gothenburg.
CCS got off to a great start with seven runs in the first inning and carried a 7-6 lead into the second inning.
Chase County loaded the bases in the second inning but wasn’t able to score.
After giving up three runs in the bottom of the second, the Longhorns added one run in the third inning.
Two runs by Gothenburg left CCS trailing 8-11 heading into the fourth inning. Chase County had runners on base, but ran out of time due to the time limit.
Guillen and Athziry Valenzuela pitched for CCS.
Lizbet Mireles, Guillen, Alyssa Schilke, Harley Markee, Brittny White and Hope Reinke had hits in the game.
The day wrapped up with a varsity matchup.
CCS gave up nine runs to the Swedes (10-6) in the first inning.
Hailey Markee scored for the Longhorns in the second inning.
Chase County gave up one run in the second inning and three in the third inning of the 1-13 loss.
Randall pitched a complete game for CCS.
Up next
Tuesday the Longhorns hosted Class B No. 7 Gering and Bayard.
Friday will be a doubleheader with Chadron.
Next week will be busy as well. Monday the Longhorns host Hershey, Tuesday they travel to Cozad for a JV/varsity doubleheader, Thursday they play Gothenburg and Cozad in Ogallala, and Saturday they go to Bayard.
