Longhorn boys b-ball slams Grant just before SPVA tourney

The Longhorns (4-6) traveled to Grant (8-3) last Thursday, Jan. 11, for a game with the Plainsmen.
Perkins County couldn’t get anything going against the pressure of the Longhorn defense.
The Longhorns started off a little cold themselves, only scoring seven in the first quarter, but they held the Plainsmen to just one two-pointer.
The Horns started to pull away in the second quarter and built a 21-7 halftime lead.
The Plainsmen still couldn’t get anything to fall in the third period, in part because of being forced to take low percentage shots by the Longhorn defense. The Longhorns stretched the lead to 38-14.
In the fourth, the Horns coasted to victory, scoring 18 to the Plainsmen’s 13 and winning 57-27.
The Longhorns were without the services of one of their big men and leading rebounder Jensen Olsen Thursday, but that didn’t show in the game.
Easton Fries led all scoring with 17, including three three-pointers. Cameron Lempke was right behind with 15.
Carson Terryberry led in rebounding with seven followed closely by Tristan Jablonski and Lempke with six each.
The stat that really stands out is that the Longhorns scored 30 points from inside the paint while the Plainsmen only had 14.
Riley Schrotberger led the Plainsmen in scoring with 5, followed by Blake Garner with  4.
Unfortunately the brackets had already been drawn for the SPVA tournament, so this game had no bearing and left the Plainsmen seeded ahead of the Horns.
Tuesday Jan. 16 these teams will do it all again in Grant for the first round of the conference tournament.
