Lady Longhorns drop heartbreaker in double overtime

In the Holiday Tournament in Sidney Dec. 29-30, the girls basketball team took 7-1 Gordon-Rushville to double overtime, but came up just short when a pass from Olivia Spady went off the fingertips of Adelle Eskew in the paint in the last seconds of the second overtime.
All Gordon-Rushville had to do was in-bounds the ball and hold it for the final tick of the clock to secure the 29-30 win.
The Longhorns started the game shutting down G-R in the first quarter while scoring six points themselves to take a six to zero lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter belonged to Gordon-Rushville, outscoring the Horns 2-12 to hold a four point halftime lead.
The Longhorns scored eight  points to G-R’s nine in the third period, leaving them trailing by five.
The Longhorns turned up the pressure in the fourth and closed the gap, tying the game at 24 when the final buzzer sounded.
In the first overtime, neither team could get anything to fall in the hoop, finishing the first overtime still knotted at 24.
Early in the second overtime, Haley Johnson of G-R drove to the hoop, making the shot and drawing a foul. Johnson made the free throw to put Gordon Rushville up by three.
Landree McNair drew a foul on the defensive end of the court and since both teams where in the bonus, McNair got to shoot two free throws.
The first rolled deep into the basket before looping back up and out of the hoop. McNair made the second to bring the Horns within two.
Taylor Trinity pulled down an offensive rebound in the paint for G-R and put it back up and in to give them a four point lead.
Peyton Owens drove the baseline before dishing the ball to Olivia Spady for the easy basket, closing the gap to just two points.
Gordon-Rushville’s top scorer, Haley Johnson drew a foul bringing the ball up-court. Johnson made the first free throw but missed the second.
Running out of time on the clock, McNair took the ball coast-to-coast and somehow managed to make a very contested layup.
Gordon-Rushville took a shot instead of just running the clock out and missed, giving the Horns one final chance at the win.
Spady brought the ball across half court and attempted to get the ball to Adelle Eskew, just missing the pass because of heavy pressure by G-R. With the ball going out of bounds off the fingertips of Eskew, all that was left was for Gordon-Rushville to in bounds the ball and let the final second run off the clock which they did.
