Landree McNair drove deep in the paint but came up to a wall put up by six foot Marlee Ervin. McNair managed to get a shot off which missed but drew the foul on Ervin. McNair made both free throws to add to her 15 points on the night.

Lady Longhorns basketball loses two in tough opening schedule

    The Lady Longhorns came up against a couple very good class C-1 teams last week. Sidney started it’s year out with four straight wins, while Ogallala sits at 3-1.
    The Sidney defense proved very effective, holding the Longhorns to single digit scoring in three of the four quarters, coming out on top of the 26-47 game
    While Sidney didn’t have any players score in double digits, they had 12 different player who got on the board.
    The Longhorns where plagued with turnovers, having 32 of which Sidney transitioned into 26 points. Sidney had 25 turnovers but the Longhorns could only score eight points off of them.
    The Horns found themselves trailing 16-5 after the first quarter. The deficit stayed at 11 at half with both teams scoring 12 in the second quarter.
    In the second half the Lady Horns could only get nine points on the board. Sidney put up 19 to take the 26-47 win.
    The leading scorer for Chase County was Landree McNair with 16.
    Saturday the Indians of Ogallala came to town for an afternoon match-up. Ogallala picked up a 43-48 win.
    The Longhorns where cold from the floor, only hitting two field goals and one three pointer in the first half. Free throws helped to keep them in the game making seven of them to keep the Horns with-in 10 at halftime 14-24.
    The Longhorns out-scored the Indians in the second half 29-24 but came up short.
    The Longhorns gave up 18 points off 20 turnovers and Ogallala only gave up 11 points off their 12 turnovers.
    The horns out-rebounded the Indians on the offensive boards 18-9, but the Indians converted those to 12 points while the Horns could only convert 10 points from them.
    Leading scorer on the night was Landree McNair with 15. Ogallala had two players in double digits. Laney Caskey had 13 and Mallory Murphy dropped in 11.
Next Action
    The Lady Longhorns will travel to Sutherland tonight Dec. 14 to take on the 1-3 Sailors. Game time in Sutherland is 4:30 p.m. MT. Friday night the Longhorns welcome the Wray Colorado Eagles for a double header with games starting at 4 p.m. MT.
