Imperial Senior softball team second at Bayard tourney

The Imperial Senior softball team split games against Morrill County and Sidney over the weekend to take second place at the first annual Morrill County Rockers 18U tournament.
Imperial opened the tournament Saturday with a 15-14 defeat of Sidney. Imperial held  a 4-1 lead going into the fourth inning, but both teams were able to bring runs across home plate to end the game.
In its second game of the day, Imperial dropped a 6-25 decision to tournament champions, Morrill County. After giving up a big first inning, Imperial scored four runs in the first then one each in the second and third.
Imperial and Morrill County were back on the field Sunday morning for the first game. Imperial’s defense showed improvement in the 7-17 loss and the offense had five hits.
A second win over Sidney wrapped up the tournament. Imperial trailed 2-3 after the top of the second inning, but broke the game open with eight runs in the bottom of the second and third innings for a 17-7 win.
Imperial’s season opened with a double header at McCook last Thursday against the Rebels.
Already well into their season, the Rebels held Imperial scoreless over both games, 0-18 and 0-11.
Players for Imperial are Anna Aragon, Kathya Aragon, Navy Havel, Alex Johnson, Hailey Markee, Peyton Owens, Marley Randall, Iris Robles, Hayley Rusher, Tessa Smith, Katelyn Stamm, Athziry Valenzuela and Kylee Wiest and its coach is Karli Hale.
Sharing pitching duties has been A. Aragon, Markee, Randall and Stamm.
The team is still looking for more games, but may be at the end of its season.
