Jacksen Littrel came up short in his quest for a shot put medal at state.

Goings, Cox claim fourth-place medals at state

Wauneta-Palisade juniors GraCee Goings and Peyton Cox made the most out of their trip to Omaha. Goings placed fourth in the discus and Cox placed fourth in the shot put.
Goings was the first Broncos in action at state as the third thrower of the first flight of Friday morning’s Class D discus.
Head Coach Dawn Doetker was relaxed from the start and was determined to do well.
Right out of the gate, Goings let loose with a personal best throw of 124’6”. That throw led through the first and second flights and never dropped below fourth place through prelims or finals.
Jacksen Littrel threw shot put in the second session of field event Friday.
Littrel wasn’t able to come close to a PR and didn’t make finals after a prelim best throw of 41’1.75”.
Doetker said Littrel worked so hard for the last four years and knows he was disappointed.
Throwing for the first time at state was a great experience for him, Doetker added.
Hitchcock County’s Keegan Shuler won the state title with a throw of 56’0.75”.
Class D girls shot put was in the first session of field events Saturday morning.
Cox, who placed seventh in shot put last year, was the fourth thrower in the final flight of prelims.
Doetker said Cox didn’t let any pressure get to her.
Cox entered state with a PR of 38’8.5” and set the goal of reaching 40 feet.
She had two personal best throws of over 39 feet, before her final throw of 39’4.25”.
Each of the top four finishers had their best throws on their final throw of the competition.
Goings and Cox both finished behind state champion JessaLynn Hudson of BDS.
Doetker said coaches were proud of the effort the Broncos gave in Omaha and that Goings, Cox and Littrel represented the school with Class.
