Girls third in 2024 SPVA basketball tournament

The Lady Longhorns finished one spot above where they were seeded in the conference tournament, coming in third.
CCS got a home game that was scheduled for Monday, Jan. 15 against Kimball. Due to weather conditions the game got pushed back to Tuesday.
The delay didn’t seem to bother Chase County as they took care of business, winning the game 47-18.
Chase County’s defense shut down any offense the Kimball girls tried and the offense was pouring in points in the first half, leading 33-7 at the half.
The CCS Horns didn’t let off in the second half, still launching up alot of three pointers, but the ball wasn’t going in like it did in the first half.
Chase County still out-scored Kimble in the final two periods 14-11 to seal a 47-18 first round win and set up a meeting with #1 seeded and undefeated Bridgeport.
Landree McNair led all scoring with 21 points. Abby Spicer was credited with nine steals and Kylee Wiest led the rebounders with 5.

The Bulldogs of Bridgeport showed why they are still undefeated, when the Longhorns faced them in the second round.
The Longhorns played Bridgeport on December 21, losing a 25-53 contest. The Bulldogs have good size and a very athletic bunch of girls.
The Longhorns fought hard  in the first quarter, trying to stick with Bridgeport, but could only stay within eight, 10-18. Bridgeports lead would never get below eight after that, building the lead to 12-33, after only allowing the Longhorns two points in the second quarter.
Unable to find an answer to stop Bridgeports top two scorers, Olivia Loomis-Goltl and Ella Schuterbusch, whom had 24 and 12 respectively in the first game, the Longhorns lost the game 25-65.
Loomis-Goltl scored 21 and Schuterbusch added 16, to knock the Horns into the third place consolation game Saturday against the Perkins Co. Plainsmen.
