Girls go 1-2 in busy weekend of basketball games

With five games scheduled over eight days, the lady Longhorns have got to have some tired legs.
Friday the Longhorns traveled to North Platte for games against St. Pats (5-15).
In a low scoring contest, the Longhorns never trailed the Irish, taking a 15-5 lead after the first quarter
The Horns stretched the lead to 17 at halftime, 25-8. It was one of the best ball handling games the girls have put together with only 12 turnovers, compared to 23 turnovers from the Irish.
The Longhorns converted 20 points off the ST. Pats turnovers while only giving up nine on their own.
In the second half, coach McNair kept bringing in fresh legs and didn’t need to press the ball up the floor, wanting to burn as much clock as possible.
The Irish outscored the Longhorns in both periods of the second half but the Horns held on to a comfortable win, 38-27.
Leading scorer on the night was Landree McNair with 19. She also had six steals and five rebounds.
Reese Fleck led the Irish in scoring with 14.
Saturday brought the 5-14 Gering girls to town. Their record is deceiving, having played a lot of quality class A and B teams.
After a good start to the game and leading at the end of the first quarter, 12-10, the Longhorns shots went cold. Gering ramped up the full court defense which rattled the Horns a bit and forced some low percentage shots, leaving the Horns trailing, 18-23 at the half.
The Bulldogs big difference in the game was scoring 19 points off 17 turnovers by the Horns.
The Dogs turned it over 13 times but only allowed the Horns to score 8 points from them. Gering was also good at pushing the ball inside, scoring 32 of their points from the paint.
CCS battled in the second half to make a comeback but fell short losing the contest 46-52.
Gering had three players in double digits, including top scorer Neveah Hrasky with the game high 14, followed by Jacelyn Brown with 11 and Jacey Cochran with 10.
Top three scorers for CCS were McNair, Anderson and Spady with 11,10 and 9 respectively.
On Monday, the girls took on Gothenburg, (15-4), on the home court.
Three of the quarters were very close, but the game slipped away from the Longhorns in the other.
After the first quarter, the Horns trailed by one, 9-10. It was the second quarter that let the game slip away in the Swedes favor.
Behind some hot three point shooting, Gothenburg put up 19 points in the second quarter while holding the Longhorns to just five.
Coming out of halftime trailing 14-29 was too big of deficit for the girls. CCS stuck with the Swedes in the final two periods, but couldn’t make up any ground, falling in the game 42-58.
Olivia Spady led the Horns in scoring with 10. Top scorer for the night was Aubrey O’Hare of Gothenburg with 20.
