Field events lead WP at Medicine Valley Invite

The Wauneta-Palisade track team claimed first place finishes in three field events at the Medicine Valley Invite Friday.
The meet, held at Cambridge, was a little windy, WP Head Coach Dawn Doetker said, but her throwers did well.
Peyton Cox won the shot put and GraCee Goings won the discus. Both throwers had personal bests in the discus. Cox finished third in the discus and Goings was third in the shot put.
Jacksen Littrel finished second in the shot put and sixth in the discus.
Kyle Jutten won the high jump.
Other top performances included Cheyenne Parrish, fifth in the 200; Lily Dinnel, sixth in the high jump and fifth in the triple jump; Ryleigh McCrumb, sixth in the pole vault; Aden Acton, third in the high jump; and Ashton Wheeler, sixth in the long jump.
Overall, Doetker said it was a tough meet that went well and there was good competition.
With RPAC coming up, the Broncos got a look at conference teams from Cambridge, Maywood/Hayes Center, Hitchcock County, Arapahoe and Medicine Valley.
Doetker is hopeful her team can get and stay healthy. Several athletes are dealing with allergies and there’s still some sore legs.
First place finishes went to Peyton Cox, shot put; GraCee Goings, discus; and Kyle Jutten, high jump.
Doetker also credited Goings for stepping up to run a leg of the 1,600-meter relay because a teammate was sick.
Up next
Doetker said her Broncos need a work week to fine tune some technique work with their field events.
“I hope the weather gets better for us to do that,” she said.
The Broncos had a rare Wednesday meet this week. WP traveled to Trenton for the Hitchcock County Invite.
Then, as Doetker said, the season is half over and starts to wind down.
WP will then have a week to prepare for the RPAC meet next Thursday. This year’s meet will be in Benkelman.
