Chase County youth wrestling club attends state tourney in Grand Island

    Chase County had 13 wrestlers qualify for the state folkstyle wrestling tournament in Grand Island on March 16-17. Wrestlers had to qualify for state at their respective district meets.
    At the meet in Grand Island there were 2630 wrestlers from across the state who competed in the two day tourney.
    Wrestlers who qualified from Chase County were, Paige Owens, Dylan Miscles, Noel Tarrin, Tatum May, Jeffrey Martin Jr., Asher Weiss, Jackson Sauder, Maura May, Slade Bustillos, Isaiah Pursley, Millianna May, Isaiah Tarin, Abram Haarberg and Trennin May.
    Chase County finished with five medals; two champions, one third place, one seventh place and one eighth place finisher.
    Trennin May won the championship in the PreK-K Bracket. Millianna May won the title in the first-second grade girls division.
    Jeffrey Martin Jr. took the third place medal in the 5th-6th grade 100 pound class. Maura May placed seventh in her bracket and Isaiah Tarin rounded out the medals, finishing in eight place.
    The wrestling club also held their end of year banquet where they recognized members of the team with awards.
    Millianna May and Joey Hanlon won the Newbie award. Most improved went to Brookes Stanley and Grayson Beemer.
    Best teammates was awarded to Dylan Miscles, Ben Lechtenberg and Jackson Sauder. Tatum May and Bo Owens won the sportsmanship award.
    Most coachable went to Noel Tarin, Asher Weiss and Slade Bustillos. Most aggressive went to Jeffrey Martin Jr. and Paige Owens and the unsung hero award went to Zariah Carman and Abram Haarberg.
    The club also recognized Trent and Jodi Spady for their many years of dedication to the youth wrestling program.
