Chase County wrestlers fourth at tough Broken Bow Invite

    Chase County wrestlers traveled to Broken Bow Saturday Dec. 2 and brought back a fourth place team finish.
    Jaret Peterson came home with the only first place finish at 215 pounds. Luis Co, Tyler O’Neil, Thomas Reeves and Zach Tarin all came home with second place finishes.
    Connor Einspahr and Malachi Christensen rounded out the medals, both placing fourth in their respective weight classes.
    In the finals of the 215 weight class, Jaret Peterson had a rematch of the state finals match from last year where he lost a 2-3 decision to Cal Wells of Broken Bow.
    Last year Peterson lost to Wells in Broken Bow but turned around and beat him in the district finals. Peterson evened up the rivalry at two wins apiece when he beat Wells 3-2 in the ultimate tie-breaker round.
    Luis Co, who finished with a fifth place medal last year at the state tournament, advanced to the finals to face undefeated William Moninger of Broken Bow. Co lost a 2-7 decision to finish second in the 150 pound weight class.
    In the 175 pound class, Tyler O’Neil made the finals to face undefeated Andrew Smith of Kearney Catholic. Smith won by major decision 5-15 to give O’Neil the second place finish.
    Thomas Reeves pinned his way to the finals at 190 pounds.  Undefeated Max Denson of Broken Bow, who had one less match on the day due to a bye his first round, handed Reeves his first loss of the year, taking a 3-10 decision to give Reeves a second place finish.
    Zach Tarin would face district foe and undefeated Jeremiah Coley of Mitchell in the finals at heavyweight. Tarin lost a close 0-3 decision to place second.
    Freshman Connor Einspahr placed fourth. Einspahr lost to eventual champion Chaz Erickson of Kearney Catholic in the quarter-finals, but fought back through the consolation bracket with two wins before falling to Christian Lemburg of St. Paul by pin to claim fourth place.
    Malachi Christensen placed fourth in the 144 pound weight class. Christensen fell in the quarter finals to Jayden Thomsen of St. Paul by pin, then won his next two before losing to Kearney Catholic’s Clay Rasmussen in a 2-6 decision.
