Chase County wins home invite by five points

With 12 wrestlers placing in the top six of their weight divisions, the Chase County wrestling team won its home invite Saturday.
Head Coach Matt Vlasin thought it was the team’s first CCS Invite win since 2008.
The Longhorns won the invite 185-180 over Hitchcock County, Class D’s No. 7 team.
Leading the way were Luis Co and Jaret Peterson with first place finishes.
Co placed first in the 11-man 138 lb. bracket. Teammate Destry Russell was fifth.
Peterson rolled through the competition at 220 lbs. to improve his season record to 22-1. Peterson continues to hold down the second place ranking in Class C and won the 100th match of his career the past week.
Placing third were Jonathon Sosa, 132 lbs.; Dawson Mollendor, 170 lbs; and Thomas Reeves, 182 lbs.
Sosa’s only loss was to Class D No. 10 Brock Burry of Bayard.
Mollendor lost to Class D No. 10 Tyler Ellis of Southwest in the second round by decision. The third place match went to overtime with Mollendor winning in sudden victory.
Reeves also lost his only match by decision, losing to Class D No. 3 Kolyn Gaston of Hitchcock County, then won the third place match in sudden victory over Colorado Class 3A No. 3 Kevin Hermosillo of Yuma. Reeves beat Hermosillo twice on the day.
