Chase County girls track team picks up first win of season

    It was not an official track meet on Friday, March 22, but the Lady Longhorns won the meet in a big way.
    The Longhorns won first place in 12 of the 18 events and had more than one entry in every event, except the 4x800 meter relay, that scored in the top eight.
    Sophomore Riley Rusher led the sprinters, winning both the 100 and 200 meter dash. Freshman Emily Randall outran the pack in the 400 meter dash, winning with a time of 1:03.76.
    In the 800 meter run, junior Olivia Spady took first followed by her sophomore cousin, Miranda Spady in second.
    CCS won all four of the relay races.
    Senior Kylee Wiest took second in both the shot put and discus, behind GraCee Goings of Wauneta/Palisade, who won both events.
    Sophomore Karlie Anderson won the high jump, clearing 4’ 10”.
    In the pole vault, CCS had three freshman vaulters go 1,2,3. Avery Beemer won with a vault of 9’ 6”, Aria McNair was second at 8’ and Kadence Wallin took third with 6’ 6”.
    Senior Katelyn Stamm out jumped all competitors in both the long and triple jump. Stamm won the long jump with a leap of 15’ 9” and won the triple jump going 34’ 3”. The Longhorns had the top four spots in the long jump and the top three in the triple jump.
    The season looks promising after a great early start.
