Chase County eSports team wins state title

After an undefeated winter season, Chase County High School’s eSports team emerged as champions of Overwatch 2 in the 3rd Division of the Nebraska Schools eSports Association. Beginning at the end of November through the beginning of February, Chase County High School’s team competed against schools from Amherst, Stanton, Thayer Central and Hershey, with the playoffs against Ord then Bridgeport with all cultivating in perfect victories for Chase County.
For the semifinals, they competed against David City High at York University. Teams usually play at home, but they came to the college for the finals.  The first round of Match 1 was on the control map of Lijiang Tower, starting with the sub-map of the Night Market, taking the point without David City ever making a claim. The second round took place on the submap of the Control Center. Chase County achieved the same perfect score, even pushing the enemy team back to their spawn point on several occasions. Match 2 was the push map of Esperança. David City was not able to get their barrier to go in their direction as Chase County had the robot push all the way to their end with seven minutes still on the clock.
For the finals, Chase County competed against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge High. The first match was hybrid map of Midtown. The only challenge was that LCC was able to claim the payload and make it near the end, though Chase County was able to halt the progress long enough for them to win. The second round, Chase County were the ones escorting the payload. They were able to get it to the end in only three minutes, taking the match.
Match 2 was the control map of Ilios, the first round on the submap of the Well. What is most dangerous about the well map is that right in the center, there is a giant well that you can fall down or be knocked into, which happened to both teams a number of times. Ultimately, Chase County kept LCC off the point the whole time. The second round was in the submap of the Ruins. Chase County was able to once again achieve a perfect victory, with LCC being pushed back to their spawn point several times. And with that, Chase County claimed the title of Winter Champions for Division 3.
In an interesting display, there were other times throughout the competition that the opposing teams switched what hero they played, as some heroes work better against others. However, there wasn’t a point against either of the schools that Chase County changed theirs. They always played as the same character. Their commitment speaks to an understanding of how the game is played with their characters, but most importantly their rock-solid teamwork.
