CCS wrestlers runner-up at home tournament

Due to the extreme cold weather on Saturday, a few of the teams for the Chase Co. Invitational withdrew.
Crawford, Hershey, KimballLeyton and Minatare all decided not to travel. Class B Cozad was scheduled to wrestle in Sidney. When that meet was called off, Cozad opted into the CCS Invite.
It was a long day in the gym, but things ran pretty smoothly and the tournament wrapped up around 8 p.m.
The Longhorns had five wrestlers make it to the finals and all five won their respective weight class.
Brextin Moreno (15-7) was the top seed at 113. He proved that seed was deserved by winning all his matches, including the finals where he pinned Luke Gardner of Garden County in 3:15 to take the title.
Luis Co (15-3) held the top seed in the 150 pound weightclass. Co pinned his way to the finals before beating Kooper Pohl of Cozad 10-6 to take the title.
At 175, Thomas Reeves (18-4) sat in the second seed. Reeves pinned his first three opponents, leading to a match with top seeded Kolby Houchin (19-3) of Bayard. Reeves won with a pin in 3:27 to take first.
Jaret Peterson (24-0) pinned every wrestler he faced on the day, winning the 215 pound class. Peterson also won the vote of the coaches for the Vern Phelps outstanding wrestler award. Zach Tarin and Thomas Reeves were right behind Peterson in the voting.
In the heavyweights, Zach Tarin (19-1) was seeded second behind Perkins County’s heavyweight Juan Perez (18-1).
Everyone in the gym was hoping to see who would get their second loss of the year.
Tarin made sure he wasn’t going to be the one, outscoring Perez in the finals 7-3 to take the heavyweight crown.
Westyn Mendenhall (15-3) took third place at 157 pounds. After starting with a bye and then pinning Kohlton Goff of Cozad, Mendenhall lost a 4-8 decision to Trey Stegman of Yuma.
Mendenhall came back with two wins in the consolation bracket to take third place.
In the 165 pound class, Tyler O’Neil (17-9) placed third. O’Neil won his first two matches before falling to Gunner Roberson of Garden County in the semi-finals. O’Neil fought back in the consolation bracket to take third place.
In the 126 weight class, Connor Einspahr (8-11) brought home a fourth place finish. Einspahr went 4-2 on the day.
Scott Hoover (11-8) finished in fourth place in the 144 pound division. Hoover went 2-2 on the day.
Fabian Arelin (16-8), placed fifth in the 165 class, going 3-2 on the day.
At 138 pounds, Malachi Christensen (17-11), picked up a sixth place finish. Christensen went 2-3.
Also picking up a sixth place finish was Kyson Vogt (3-7). Vogt went 1-2 on the day.
