CCS Longhorn football chops down Wood River 47-0

The Longhorns didn’t waste any time Friday night against the Eagles of Wood River who entered the game with a 1-6 record coming of a 19-42 loss to Hastings St. Cecelia.
The Eagles got the opening kick and started on their 20. The Longhorn defense held them to three and out and forced a punt into a very strong south wind.
A very high punt landed and was downed at the Wood River 46. On the first offensive play, Malachi Christensen pitched it around the right end to Tucker Mollendor. Having no where to go on the right side, Mollendor cut it back around the left end and scooted 46 yards to the endzone for the first score of the night. The extra point kick by James McArthur sailed left of the uprights to keep it at 6-0.
The Eagles seamed to have trouble with the speed of Mollendor as he scored again in the first quarter from 12 yards out. McArthur was good on the kick to make it 13-0.
Quarterback Hayden Edgren was under pressure all night from the swarming defense of the Horns.
After the Longhorns fumbled the ball and the Eagles recovered inside the Longhorn 25 it looked like the momentum might swing Wood Rivers way. The eagles hit a pass over the middle for a first down. After two stops on runs, Edgren dropped back to pass but a blitzing Zach Herbert and Jaret Peterson had other ideas.
Herbert knocked the ball loose and Peterson jumped on top of it, ending the scoring threat.
The Horns drove the length of the field and Cooper Dillan capped of the drive with a 3 yard plunge to the endzone. McArthur’s kick was good and it was 20-0.
The Horns would tack on one more score in the half when Christensen hit Thomas Reeves with an underthrown ball which Reeves brought in and showed his moves leaving would be tacklers with nothing but air and scoring from 46 yards out. The kick was blocked leaving the score 26-0 at halftime.
The Horns got the ball to start the third quarter and wasted no time. Reeves capped the opening drive of the second half with a 23 yard touch down run.
Later in the third quarter, Dillan would punch it in from two yards out. Both kicks by McArthur were good and the Horns led 40-0.
The second string players would see a lot of playing time for the rest of the game with Krayton Paisley coming in as quarterback.
Paisley led a drive in the fourth quarter that was finished off by a two yard run by Luis Co. The kick was good to bring the final score to 47-0.
On offense Christensen was 3/3 passing for 80 yards and one TD. Tucker Mollendor led the rushing with 11 carries for 124 yards and two TD’s. Dillan had 13 for 49 and two TD’s, McArthur 2 for 29, Reeves 3 for 23 and one TD, Christensen 2 for 22, T. Hubbard 3 for 20, Co 4 for 5 and one TD.
Receiving Reeves was 1 for 46 and one TD, T. Jablonski 1 for 21 and K Clevenger 1 for 13.
    Luis Co led in tackles with 7, Z. Herbert 6, C. Dillon and S. Heerman 5, T. Mollendor 4, T. Hubbard, T. Jablonski, S. Hoover, T. Reeves, T. O’Neil, C. Terryberry and B. Moreno 3, J. McArthur and K. Vogt 2, M. Christensen, W. Mendenhall and D. Russell 1.
Clevenger had an interception and Peterson recovered a fumble. McArthur was 5-7 on extra points.
