Chase County Schools was a busy place Thursday when it hosted the SPVA junior high meet as planned, but also the rescheduled high school meet. The day went off without a hitch and wrapped up in good time.

CCS hoping to continue girls’ district dominance on track

Spring is in the air and district track season is upon us.
The Chase County girls’ track team’s defense of its 2021 Class C state championship begins Thursday in Mitchell at the District C-9 meet.
Doing their best to slow the Longhorns will be Bayard, Bridgeport, Gordon-Rushville, Hemingford, Kimball, Mitchell, Morrill and Perkins County.
Heading into the meet, CCS leads the district in six running events, all three relays and two field events.
Chase County did its best to stay healthy last week as it took part in three meets.
The Longhorns opened the week with the Best of the Midwest in Sutherland May 3.
With the region’s top eight athletes in each event invited to the meet, CCS took six first place finishes.
Bryn McNair won the 400 meter run, Lucy Spady won the 3,200 meter run and Jerzee Milner won both hurdles races.
CCS also swept all three relays.
After JV athletes traveled to the North Platte JV Invite Wednesday, CCS hosted the rescheduled SPVA meet the next day. Chase County was scheduled to host the SPVA junior high meet, so both meets were held together.
CCS claimed the conference title over North Platte St. Pat’s, 193-111.
    B. McNair won the 400 and 800 meter runs, high jump and anchored the 1,600 meter relay.
Spady won the 1,600 meter run, Milner the 100 meter hurdles and Jordan Jablonski  the pole vault.
The Longhorns have settled in to their relay combinations and won all three. Running the 400 meter relay was Chloe Dillan, Jablonski, Ali McNair and Milner. In the 1,600 meter relay were Peyton Owens, Jablonski, A. McNair and B. McNair. The 3,200 meter relay was made up of L. Spady, Landree McNair, Olivia Spady and Jablonski.
The week wrapped up with a trip to Benkelman for the Dundy County Stratton Twilight Friday.
The Longhorns won the team title, scoring 193 to runner up Wallace’s 105.
With a big week behind them and coaches being careful to monitor athlete health, CCS still picked up five individual wins, B. McNair, 800 meter run and high jump; L. Spady, 3,200 meter run; Milner, 100 meter hurdles; and Ava McNair, triple jump.
The 400 meter relay and 1,600 meter relay also won.
