CCS fourth at home invite

Chase County Head Wrestling Coach Matt Vlasin said his team wrestled really well in front of its home crowd Saturday, but one poor round cost his team a better placing in the team standings.
“The placement round was rough, but the rest of the day went really well,” Vlasin said.
Jaret Peterson led the way for CCS with a first place finish at 220 lbs. Peterson improved his record to 25-3 with a sweep of the four-man pool.
Thomas Reeves took second place at 182 lbs. Facing a five-man pool, Reeves only lost to Crawford’s Kolby Welling (17-3).
Cayden White finished second at 120 pounds. In a six-man bracket, White won his semifinal match in overtime, 11-9, but was pinned in his finals match.
Two wins in four matches gave Zach Tarin a third place finish at 195 lbs.
Malachi Christensen at 126 lbs. and Westyn Mendenhall at 132 lbs. each placed fifth.
At 152 lbs., Zach Herbert went 3-2 and placed fifth, while Cody Duffy went 3-3 with a medical forfeit.
Bryce Vitosh finished 2-3 at 160 lbs.
Also wrestling was Trevin Moreno at 106 lbs., George Colton 126 lbs., Alonso Martinez  and Tyler O’Neil at 145 lbs. and Bradley Speaker at 170 lbs.
CCS Quadrangular
The Longhorns started off the weekend hosting a quad with Wauneta-Palisade, Kimball and Leyton Friday night.
CCS won all three of its duals. Out of 42 possible matches, the Longhorns wrestled 13 times as all teams had multiple forfeits.
Up next
The Longhorns have a busy week ahead. CCS will be at the Hitchcock County Quadrangular Thursday. Also in Trenton will be Sutherland and Cambridge.
Chase County will head to the Hemingford Invite Friday and Chadron Invite Saturday.
Vlasin said he plans to take 10-11 wrestlers on the trip north.
He has hopes the Longhorns will finish in the top two at Hemingford.
Chadron will be a much tougher meet, featuring a bigger variety of schools.
