CCS drops triangular games

The Chase County softball team lost its season opening games Monday night.
In past years CCS has traveled to Stamford to take on Southern Valley/Alma and Minden for its first games of the season.
This year, McCook replaced Minden and hosted the triangular.
Both SVA and McCook already had several games under their belts before Monday.
The Longhorns started seven seniors and two juniors in their first game of the night against the Saints.
Despite the number of upperclassmen, Head Coach Denise Smith said it was still a group without a lot of experience.
CCS is especially inexperienced in the circle. Senior Katelyn Stamm started against Southern Valley/Alma and sophomore Marley Randall pitched against McCook.
The Longhorns lost to SVA 0-13 and, after an overhaul to the lineup, to McCook 0-12.
Out of Chase County’s 17 players, 15 were on the field in McCook.
Smith said it’s been a hard group to get a read on emotionally and she wanted to get as many as possible on the field to see how they’d react in game situations.
Despite the lopsided scores, Smith saw plays that she knows the Longhorns can build on.
Randall and Stamm both made pitches that allowed batters to put the ball in play. At the plate, Chase County was taking swings at the ball and not just watching.
“We’ll keep working on our line up. We can get this figured out,” Smith said.

CCS will have a week to prepare for its next games, a doubleheader with Holyoke, Colorado Tuesday.
Thursday the Longhorns will face Southern Valley/Alma on the Saints’ home field.
