CCS boys wrestling gets second straight tournament title

    The CCS boys wrestling team traveled to Bridgeport, Thursday, Febr. 1 for the WTC/SPVA/MAC/PAC conference tournament. The Longhorns came away with a 20 point winning margin over Sutherland.
    The Longhorns had 4-1st, 3-3rd, 2-4th, 2-5th and 1-6th place finishers.
    Luis Co, (41-4), took first place at 144 pounds by pinning his first two opponents. In the semi-final match, Illias Lehmen of Bridgeport had a medical forfeit, vaulting Co into the finals against Kyler Vincent, (28-6), of Gordon Rushville.
    Co won a 6-0 decision to take the title.
    Thomas Reeves, (38-6) wrestled at 175 pounds. After getting a bye in the first round, Reeves took only 4:13 of wrestling time to pin all three of his opponents, enroute to the title.
    At 215 pounds, Jaret Peterson, (41-0), started the day with a bye, followed by three pins to keep his record unblemished for the season and take the title.
    Rounding out the champions was Zach Tarin, (38-2), wrestling at 285. Tarin started the day with a bye, followed up with two second period pins.
    Tarin faced Reegan French, (26-10), of Morrill in the finals, winning the match due to an injury to French.
    Three CCS wrestlers only had one loss on the day. Scott Hoover, (24-15), won his first two matches. In the semifinals, Hoover lost a heart-breaker to Tucker Banister, (12-2), of Gordon-Rushville in the sudden victory round 4-6.
    Hoover came back with two more wins to secure a third place finish.
    At 157 pounds, Westyn Mendenhall, (26-11) pinned his first two opponents before dropping a close 5-7 decision to Wyatt Feddersen, (25-12), of Gordon-Rushville.Mendenhall bounced back and won his next two to take third place.
    Tyler O’Neil, (31-14), took third place at 165 pounds. O’Neil lost in the semifinals to Gunner Roberson, (31-4), of Garden County before coming back to win his next two for third place.
    Jaqueb Hoover, (19-22), and Malachi Christensen, (23-18), each went 3-2 on the day to finish in fourth place at 132 and 138 pounds respectively.
    Fifth place finishers were Connor Einspahr, (20-21), at 132 pounds and Ray Morillo Jr., (10-16), wrestling at 190 pounds.     
    Jesus Medina, (9-11), finished 1-3 on the day to place sixth in the 215 pound class.
    The wrestlers next meet is districts at Broken Bow on Febr. 9-10.
    The girls are scheduled to compete on Febr. 9, followed by the boys on Febr. 10.
    State Wrestling in Omaha is set for Febr. 15-17.
    Chase County boys will wrestle in the morning session on Thursday Febr. 15. All classes of girls will start wrestling at 3:00 p.m. along with the class A and D boys.
    On Friday, class B and C start wrestling at 9:00 a.m. Class A and D plus the girls will start at noon. Friday evening at 6:30 all boys and girls classes will wrestle semifinals and 3rd round consolations.
    Saturday is all classes boys and girls all day, starting with consolation semifinals at 9:00 a.m., followed by the third and fifth place matches.
    The Championship finals will take place on four mats beginning at 3:00 p.m. and will be televised on PBS.

126—Westen Manley (7-9)  pinned Kale DaMoude (HER) 2:56, was pinned by Oliver Nutter (SUT) 0:25, lost by medical forfeit to Tate Teply (CCS).
126—Tate Teply (1-14) was pinned by Hudson Deeds (NPSP) 0:24, bye, won by medical forfeit over Westyn Manley (CCS), was pinned by Luke Wetherington (BAY) 0:43.
132—Connor Einspahr (20-21) pinned Tucker Kemp (NPSP) 3:21, pinned Jayden Klein (NPSP) 2:52, was pinned by Uzziah Voss (MIT) 0:42, lost by decision to Jaqueb Hoover (CCS) 4-9, won a decision over Blake Collins (BP) 3-0 for fifth place.
132—Jaqueb Hoover (19-22) pinned Kip Gillming (KIM) 0:45, was pinned by Nate Barker (BAY) 2:00, pinned Tucker Kemp (NPSP) 2:23, won by major decision over Jake Richter (SUT) 12-2, won by decision over Connor Einspahr (CCS) 9-4, was pinned by Breckyn Collins (NPSP) 2:23 for fourth place.
