CCS boys go 1-1 in Sidney Shootout

    In the opening game of the Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29-30, Chase County dominated Gordon-Rushville from start to finish.
    The Longhorns had nine boys get in on the scoring Friday night.
    Senior Noah Rau led all in points with his double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds.Zane Mays and Cameron Lempke also scored in double digits with 16 and 12 respectively.
    The Horns defense held the Mustangs to just five fieldgoals on the night. Daniel Martins was top scorer for Gordon-Rushville with six points.
    The Longhorns outscored the Mustangs 22-3 in the first quarter and never took their foot off the pedal.
    By halftime the lead had stretched to 43-5 so there where a lot of players who got significant game time off the bench in the second half.
    The Longhorns outscored the Mustangs 17-6 in the third quarter and finished the game holding Gordon-Rushville to just one point in the final quarter while the Horns put up 16 to win the game 76-12.
    Saturday Night was a rematch from Dec. 8 when the Longhorns traveled to Sidney and lost 40-55. Sidney has remained undefeated since that early meeting.
    The Longhorns gave Sidney a run for their money and gave themselves a shot at winning the game.
    After falling behind by seven, 6-13 in the first quarter,the Horns got outscored 5-11 in the second. Trailing 24-11 at the break, the Longhorns came out in the third quarter and put it on the Red Raiders, outscoring them 17-4 to tie the game at 28 going into the fourth.
    Sidney was able to regroup for the final stanza, outscoring the Horns 7-15 to take the eight point victory, 35-43. The Longhorns showed major improvement from the first meeting.
    Landon Riddle of Sidney was the top scorer for the night   with 16 followed by Keian Kaiser with 13.
    Cameron Lempke led the Longhorns with 12. Both teams shot 50% from the charity stripe.
Next action
    Both the girls and boys teams start the new year with four games on the road.
    Both the basketball teams traveled to Benkelman for JV and Varsity action on Tuesday Jan. 2. Information on this game will appear in next weeks addition of the paper.
    On Saturday Jan. 6 both teams will travel to Kimball for JV and Varsity action starting at 2:00 MT. Tuesday Jan. 9 both teams head to Southern Valley before wrapping up the road games in Grant on Jan. 11.
