CCS boys and girls fourth at SPVA tournament

After winning their SPVA tournament opening round games last week, both the Chase County boys and girls basketball teams finished fourth in the tournament.
The Longhorn boys’ team, the fourth seed, hosted fifth seeded Hershey Jan. 16.
Tristan Jablonski started off the game with a three pointer for CCS and, though tied, the Longhorns never trailed in the 55-32 win.
The Longhorns outscored Hershey in the paint 30-14.
Kade Anderson and Jablonski each scored 12 points to lead CCS.
A midweek snowstorm forced the conference to move Thursday’s games to Friday. Gyms at North Platte Community College and North Platte St. Pat’s were utilized to get all the scheduled boys and girls games finished.
The CCS boys played Class D1 No. 2 NPSP in the semifinals.
The Longhorns held a 12-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, but went quiet offensively in the second. Easton Fries made Chase County’s only field goal and also hit two free throws for all of the Longhorns’ second quarter points.
The second half was similar. CCS played even with the Irish for the third quarter, then only scored two points in the fourth quarter.
Fries led CCS with 14 points and Anderson added 12 in the 32-48 loss.
After a Jan. 12 loss to Perkins County, CCS was looking forward to a rematch with the Plainsmen in the tournament’s consolation game.
Like the first time they played, CCS got off to a sluggish start on offense, not scoring for the game’s first six minutes. The Longhorns only scored two first quarter points. Despite only trailing 2-9, CCS couldn’t dig itself out of the seven-point hole and lost by six points, 40-46.
Anderson finished with 13 points for the Longhorns.
On the girls side, Chase County kicked off its tournament as the fifth seed and traveled to the fourth seed, Perkins County Jan. 17.
The Longhorns trounced PCS for the second time in five days, 61-43.
After the first quarter, CCS never let the Plainsmen get closer than 10 points and continued to pull away in the second half.
Chase County led in transition points, 9-0, and second chance points, 18-6.
Bryn McNair led CCS with 28 points. Landree McNair also scored in double figures with 10 points. Both had double doubles. B. McNair pulled down 12 rebounds and L. McNair grabbed 10.
The win moved CCS on to the semifinals where the Longhorns played Class C1 No. 1 Bridgeport.
Both teams got off to a slow start. Despite not scoring for the first 3:30 of the game, CCS only trailed 2-4. Once the Bulldogs got hot, however, there was no catching up.
Bridgeport did plenty of damage in the low block where CCS was outscored 12-40. The Longhorns lost the points off turnovers battle, 0-20.
    B. McNair scored 12 points for the Longhorns and nabbed 11 boards in the 23-66 loss.
CCS took on NPSP, the third seed, Saturday in the consolation game.
The Longhorns held St. Pat’s scoreless for over four minutes to start the game, but also struggled themselves to score.
The teams took a 17-17 tie to halftime. Despite CCS taking a 23-17 lead with two minutes gone in the third quarter, Chase County trailed 25-30 at the quarter and lost the game 40-48.
CCS had 11 offensive rebounds but could only translate them to eight second chance points.
    B. McNair scored 24 points to lead CCS.
