Broncos set baseline for season at Perkins County

Every team needs a place to start and for the Wauneta-Palisade track team that place was the Perkins County Pre-Season Meet Friday in Grant.
Head Coach Dawn Doetker said it was a good start to the season and a meet to get baseline performances in.
Doetker said she thought field events went well for WP.
Senior GraCee Goings, who placed fourth at Class D state last year in the discus, won both shot put and discus. Fellow senior Peyton Cox, the fourth place finisher at state in shot put, missed the meet with an injury. Also finishing in the top eight of shot put were LiLeigh Littrel, sixth, and Izzy Stehno, eighth. Littrel placed fifth in discus and Abi Greaves was eighth.
WP also placed three in high jump, Emma Acton was third, Sawyer Vrbas fifth and Lilly Dinnel was sixth.
Cheyenne Parrish added a fourth place finish in triple jump.
On the boys side, Aden Acton won high jump with a leap of 5’10”. Teammate Luke Sims was sixth.
Ashton Wheeler placed fifth in long jump.
On the track, WP placed McKenna Doetker, fourth, and Parrish, sixth, in the 100-meter dash, while Saviana Carrizales placed seventh in the 200.
Jewel Holtus was fourth in the 400-meter dash and Ansley Bartels placed fourth in the 800. Emma Acton also placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles.
Konner McCrumb took sixth place in the 400. Sims earned his second medal with a fifth-place finish in the 800.  Casey Walker was sxith in the 300-meter hurdles.
In the relays, WP placed third in the boys 1,600-meter relay, while the girls took fourth. Running for the boys team was Konner McCrumb, Kameran McCrumb, Wheeler and Kaden Dorn. Members of the girls team were Addalyn Einspahr, Parrish, Holthus and Carrizales.
Other schools at the meet were Chase County, Perkins County, Potter-Dix and Wallace.
Doetker said it was a good meet for the Bronco freshmen to get an understanding of the competition at a high school level meet.
“We have lots of work to do with technique and conditioning,” she added.
While the weather wasn’t terrible Friday, it did get chilly as the day went on. Doetker said her teams did their best with the conditions.
Up next
WP will travel to the Sutherland Booster Club Invite Thursday.
Doetker is hopeful Cox and Peyton Dyer will have recovered from injuries and be ready to compete.
Also in Sutherland will be Creek Valley, Hershey, Hitchcock County, South Platte, Wallace, Maywood/Hayes Center, Paxton and Sandhills Valley.
