Broncos qualify three for state track meet

Three Wauneta-Palisade throwers will continue their strong seasons with appearances at the Class D state track meet.
Peyton Cox broke the 38-feet mark in the shot put once more during districts in Cambridge May 10. That throw won the district and automatically qualified Cox for state and was the fourth best throw at Class D districts around the state.
GraCee Goings placed second in the discus and also earned an automatic bid.
The D7 district will send four shot putters to Omaha, including the Broncos’ Jacksen Littrel. Littrel finished fourth at districts but was an additional qualifier. His throw was also good enough to get him into the second flight at state.
Head Coach Dawn Doetker said WP was especially excited to have Littrel going as an additional qualifier.
Littrel also battled through a slick ring to finish third in the discus.
Kyle Jutten finished fourth in the high jump with a height of 5’10” and missed out on a chance to jump at state, despite six qualifiers only clearing 5’8” or less. Another district, the D9, qualified three jumpers with the first place finisher clearing just 5’8” and two jumpers tied for second at 5’6”.
For the Bronco girls, Cheyenne Parrish had a personal best in the triple jump and finished fourth.

Now, Doetker says Cox, Goings and Littrel will work on staying focused on technique and throwing each day so they don’t lose any ground that they have built.
“We are hoping for some medals and more PRs at state,” she said.
Goings will be the first to compete in Omaha, throwing Friday morning at 9 a.m. CT.
Littrel will throw at 11:30 a.m. CT Friday.
Cox will look for a repeat medal Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. CT.
