Broncos finish third in West bracket of RPAC Tournament

    The RPAC tournament started Thursday Oct.12 with the West teams playing in Paxton and the East teams playing in Cambridge.
    Teams in the East bracket are #1 seed Southwest (23-3)  #2 Cambridge (20-3), #3 Southern Valley (14-8), #4 Bertrand (15-11) #5 Alma (15-11), #6 Medicine Valley (10-14), and #7 Arapahoe (7-14).
    Teams in the West are #1 seed Wallace (24-2), #2 Paxton (15-8), #3 Hitchcock County (15-13), #4 Maywood-Hayes Center (13-9), #5 Maxwell (14-12), #6 Wauneta-Palisade (11-14) and #7 Dundy County-Stratton (0-26).
    The Broncos faced Hitchcock County in their first match of the tournament Thursday. It was a very tight match all the way to the end with the biggest margin of victory being just five points.
    Wauneta-Palisade won the first match 25-21 but Hitchcock County came right back and won the next two matches 23-25 and 20-25.
    The Broncos turned it around and fought for an overtime win in the fourth set, 30-28. In the fifth set they only play to 15 and the Broncos got there first, winning the match 15-13 to progress and face the winner of the Paxton-Dundy County match.
    Paxton won that match easily over DCSH with scores of 25-13, 25-7 and 25-6.
    In the match between Maxwell and Maywood-Hayes Center it took all five sets before Maywood-Hayes Center could put Maxwell away. Scores were 24-26, 25-22, 21-25, 25-16 and 15-13.
    Paxton was pretty fresh having won in such short fashion against DCSH. Those fresher legs proved too much for the Lady Broncos as they fell to the Tigers in straight sets, 17-25, 21-25 and 20-25. That dropped the Broncos into the consolation matches Monday.
    The top seeded Wallace Wildcats won over Maywood-Hayes Center in straight sets 25-22, 25-21 and 25-10. That set the semi-finals for Monday between Wallace and Paxton.

    The Broncos swept Maywood-Hayes Center on Monday night to finish third in the West and Maxwell swept Hitchcock County for fifth. In the semi-final game of the West bracket Wallace won in 5 sets over Paxton.
    On the East side of the bracket on Thursday, Oct. 12, Bertrand beat Alma in four sets 16-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22. Southern Valley beat Medecine Valley in straight sets 25-12,25-15 and 25-19.
    Cambridge won over Arapahoe in straight sets 25-16, 25-20 and 25-13.
    In the second round of the East bracket Bertrand was looking to upset top seeded Southwest but fell in four sets 22-25, 25-20, 25-7 and 26-24.
    Cambridge beat Southern Valley in straight sets 25-19, 25-19 and 25-15. Medicine Valley survived a scare from Arapahoe winning 25-15, 22-25 and 29-27.
    That set up Southwest and Cambridge in the East semi-final on Monday which was played in Bartley.
    Alma won in two sets over Medicine Valley to finish fifth in the East. Southern Valley won in four sets over Bertrand for third.
    In the semi-final match Southwest won in five sets over Cambridge setting up a match between Southwest and Wallace in McCook Tuesday.
    Cambridge played Paxton in the consolation match. Results of Tuesday’s games where not available at press time.
