Broncos fall short of state bids

    With three of the top Class D teams in the state at the D4 district wrestling, Mullen, Sutherland and Hitchcock County, wins were tough to come by for Wauneta-Palisade wrestlers.
    Coleman Chism, 113 lbs., and Blake Nickerson, 182 lbs, each went 3-2 and lost in the heartbreak round.
    C. Chism lost in the quarterfinals to Class D No. 7 Blake Devitt of Hitchcock County, then won two matches, including one over teammate Konner McCrumb, before losing in the consolation semis.
    Nickerson lost to No. 3 Kolyn Gaston of Hitchcock County in the quarterfinals  and won two matches before losing to No. 10 Conner Bryner in the consolation semis.
    K.McCrumb, who bumped up to 113 lbs.; Sean Manley, 195 lbs.; and Draven Miner, 220 lbs., finished 1-2.
    One of K. McCrumb’s losses came to state qualifier Zach Jeffords of Bridgeport.
    After a first round pin, Manley lost to No. 2 Keegan Shuler of Hitchcock County.
    Miner lost to district champion Tel Kvanig of Mulle in the first round.
    Bob Chism, 106 lbs.; Andrew Muckety, 120 lbs.; Justin Warembourg, 152 lbs.; and Trey McCrumb, 170 lbs., went 0-2.
    Muckety suffered a loss to No. 8 Luke Harper of Sutherland, while T. McCrumb lost to No. 6 Aydan Kaps of Sutherland. Warembourg lost to state qualifier Ryker Copeland of Sutherland.
