Broncos fall to Paxton 20-40 on gridiron

    The Wauneta-Palisade Broncos stuck with Paxton for the first three quarters of the game but the strong running of Gunner Foster proved to be too much in the end.
    Paxton scored first Friday with a four yard run by Foster.The two point conversion was good giving Paxton the early 0-8 lead with 9:11 left in the first quarter.
    The Broncos bounced back with a drive of their own, scoring on a one yard run from Kreyton Wiese. Wiese would also score on the two point conversion tying the game at eight with 2:14 left in the opening quarter.
    Midway through the second quarter Wauneta-Palisade took it’s only lead of the night when Aden Acton caught a 25 yard pass from Draven Miner. The extra point kick failed but the Broncos led 14-8 with 6:43 left in the first half.
    Paxton came back and scored on a five yard run by Noah Coppersmith. The two point conversion was good giving Paxton back the lead 14-16.
    The Broncos next drive stalled and with just 18 seconds left in the half, Foster scored from 10 yards out. After a successful two point conversion, Paxton led 14-24 at halftime.
    The defense stepped up in the third quarter keeping Paxton off the scoreboard while the offense tacked on another touchdown when Trey McCrumb scored on a 10 yard run. The PAT was no good leaving the score at 20-26.
    The fourth quarter was all Paxton. With 4:33 left in the game Foster scored from 10 yards out and went in again with just 0:33 seconds left from 78 yards out.
    Both touchdowns were followed by successful two point conversions bringing the final score to 20-40. Foster carried 24 times for 232 yards.
    D. Miner was 16/27 passing for 137 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception, T. McCrumb was 0/1 with 1 interception.         Rushing leaders were K. Wiese 16/50 1 TD, T. McCrumb 8/26 1 TD, S. Manley 1/4, G. Sutherland 1/1, A Acton 1/-2 and D. Miner 1/-9.
    Receiving: Acton was 8-97  yards and 1 TD, Sutherland 2-24, Wiese 5-14 and Walker 1-2.
Next action
    The Broncos will travel Friday Night for the last game of the season against Brady (1-6). Brady is coming off a 25-86 loss to Arthur County. Game time is 6 p.m. MT.
    The Broncos are sitting in 26th place in the district point standings and only the top 16 will make the playoffs.
