Broncos build confidence with districts ahead

The Wauneta-Palisade track teams are hitting their peaks at just the right time.
With the D7 district meet Wednesday this week, the Broncos were at the Best of the Midwest May 2 and used the Dundy County Stratton Twilight last Friday to prepare for districts.
Head Coach Dawn Doetker said the Dundy County Stratton meet was a great meet before this week’s district meet and gave her athletes some confidence going into districts.
“We are peaking right where we want to be. Our field events are very strong,” Doetker said.
Wauneta-Palisade had 15 personal records at DCS, while using the meet as a speed conditioning day.
The girls 400-meter relay, McKenna Doetker, Cheyenne Parrish, Ryleigh McCrumb and Halle Bardsley, placed second with a season’s best time.
Lillian Dinnel finished second in the high jump with a PR of 5’0” and Peyton Cox placed second in the shot put.
Parrish made the finals of both the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Parrish also placed third in the triple jump with a PR of 31’6”.
McCrumb took third place in the girls’ pole vault.
For the boys, Kyle Jutten matched his personal best and was second in the high jump. Aden Acton placed third for the Broncos.
Jacksen Littrel was third in the discus with a PR of 133’1” and finished fourth in the shot put.
Sophomores Gabriel McCrumb qualified for the finals of the 100-meter dash and Collin Bley qualified for the 200 finals.
Jutten, Littrel and Cox also competed at the Best of the Midwest in Sutherland.
Jutten had WP’s best finish, taking second place in the high jump.
Cox and Littrel both threw the shot put. Cox finished fourth and Littrel placed seventh with a PR of 45’2”.
Doetker said the competition was tough at the all-class, invitation-only event.
“I thought the kids did very well,” Doetker said.
